It is aimed at solving specific conservation issues of the building. This includes the facade damage that led to a 2021 emergency intervention.

Eduardo Lucena, the delegate for the territory, is the chairperson of the Provincial Heritage Commission of the Delegation of Tourism, Culture and Sports. The commission has given a positive report on the project of rehabilitation presented to the Santisima Trinidad de La Rambla church’s main façade and its pilasters. By installing a protective network, the project proposes to address specific conservation issues of the building. This includes the damaged facade that prompted an urgent intervention in 2021.

Cover is painted almagra and made from jasper. The cover is made of jasper stone and painted in almagra color. It has a geometric molding on the lintel and a split upper pediment. This gives way to another body that features a niche flanked with columns, and crown with a triangular pedestal with ball pinnacles. The niche contains the Trinitarian Angel who liberates two prisoners. Cover is severely degraded with damages due to moisture, separation of materials, exfoliation, fractures and breaks in the stone. Biocrust formation, biocrust formation, loss of joint mortar and disintegration.

Restoration will be divided into phases: cleaning and consolidation, removal of dry paint, repair of cracked and dislocated elements and stitching, and application of preservative and fungicide. The same steps are planned for the Trinitarian Angel image, in addition to cleaning it.

The Heritage Commission, despite the positive report, suggests using fiberglass or carbon rods to stitch the cracks, rather than steel. This will prevent rusting. The Heritage Commission also recommends that the various color layers on the facades, plinths and mouldings be studied to create a cohesive finish.

Both the church and convent of Santisima Trinidad de la Rambla have been declared Assets of Cultural Interests (BIC), and they are listed in the General Catalog of Andalusian Historical Heritage. This declaration also includes an assortment of property that can be moved and a protection environment.

The origin and evolution of time

It is situated to the east of the La Rambla urban centre. The convent was founded during the first third of the sixteenth century. The cloister was built around a large square with semicircular brick arches and stone columns with Tuscan capitals. It had a nine-span arch with an octagonal floor plan. In the 16th century, there was a single nave with three pilasters separating sections and a quadrangular roof with quarter-spheres. The temple expanded in the 18th Century with the addition of a side nave to house the Tabernacle. This was done by opening arches with alfiz frames and covering it with a barrel-vaulted with lunettes. Three neoclassical changing rooms are located in the tabernacle’s nave. A baroque entrance with a divided pediment, and a niche beneath a triangular pedestal, is featured on the facade. The interior is lit by two tall and wide windows. The gable ends at the bell tower.

It is the French occupation, and subsequent confiscation of the building that caused the decline. The old convent was still in use after the Trinitarians returned at the end 19th century. In 1990 it was in a very bad state, but still stood. It became municipal property in 1990. Only the remains of two bays of the cloister on the ground level were left after various demolitions and collapses. In recent years, the church had also recovered from a semi-disastrous condition.
