One Virginia church prays when raindrops start falling.
Clifton Forge, a tiny town in Virginia, has a problem with rain and is asking for assistance to raise the roof.
Kimberly Taylor’s family and the church she attends are haunted by images of rain water accumulating in a trash can and water stains on walls.
When it rains, they have to deal with that. Social media is used to keep her members, followers and viewers from all over the country informed.
Taylor’s father, Pastor Leon Taylor, who has been leading the First Church of God In Christ for 37 years says that the situation is dire.
How did things get so bad?
We have a church with a flat-roof. We have repaired and maintained it over the years because the roof is flat. The water collects at the top. When there are leaves in the gutters it can block them and the water will then find its way into the walls”, said Pastor Taylor.
The damage is visible inside and the price — many tens or thousands of dollars for this small church — is looming.
If the wall is damaged in this way, mold and mildew will tend to grow. Some people have breathing problems, and we do not want this to cause any issues. We want that to be done as soon as possible,” added Pastor Taylor.
The church leaders claim that the majority of their congregation is elderly and are working feverishly to fundraise for the raise the roof campaign.
The roof needs to be replaced with an A-line structure for $40,000 in order to stop the leaks.
They want to get back to business quickly to avoid missing much time. Members rely on the church to provide hope, help and to stay connected to each other as well as to higher powers.
“We’ve been feeding children all summer long. We try to serve whenever there is an opportunity. Taylor stated, “We have provided housing for people.” We have housed people when needed. We try to help people in any way we can. “We have helped pay rent, and car payments in our efforts to serve the community.”
